Mold or organic growth is part of the natural environment. It plays an important role by breaking down and digesting organic material. Mold is usually not a problem indoors unless mold spores land on a wet/damp spot and begin growing.

If mold is not monitored or eliminated, it can damage buildings and furnishings, rot wood, damage drywall, cause structural damage to buildings, and cause cosmetic damage, such as stains. If molds are inhaled, they can cause negative health effects in some people, such as headaches, difficulty breathing, skin irritation, allergic reactions, and aggravated asthma symptoms.

RHI can help test for mold. Your inspector will complete an air quality test by taking samples of the air, which tests for the concentration of mold spores in the home’s air. This test will tell you if you have a mold problem, even if you cannot find the mold growth. We also offer a tape lift if mold is spotted. The adhesive side of the tape is pressed against a moldy surface to collect the sample before it is sent the next day to a lab for results. Results are returned within 48 hours and decisions about remediation can be made.
